BOB SCHULTZ
Trumpet / Flugelhorn / Piccolo Trumpet / Cornet / Brass & Horn Arrangement
Bob Schultz is one of Australia’s leading Trumpet artists. At home in all styles of music, his diverse career encompasses jazz, latin, classical, popular and commercial repertoire. Bob has regularly appeared as guest Principal Trumpet with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra, starring in their recent production of “Strictly Gershwin”. He has spent the last decade in the pit performing professional touring productions such as Aladdin, Matilda, The Book of Mormon, Kinky Boots and Beautiful: The Carole King Musical.
A pupil of renowned trumpeter John Hoffman, Bob received a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Studies from the Queensland Conservatorium and has continued to show his diversity by performing alongside soloists such as Diana Krall, Bill Watrous and Tom Burlinson. He has performed with groups such as The Buena Vista Club, The Temptations, The Saints and Afro Cuban ensemble Chukale. Also an in-demand soloist, 2016 saw Bob perform the Australian premiere of Frank Proto’s A Carmen Fantasy, originally written for one of his idols, Doc Severinsen.
Passionate about education, Bob has held teaching positions at some of Queensland’s leading high schools and conducted clinics and workshops Australia-wide. As a founding member of one of Australia’s leading Brass Quintet’s Best of Brass, Bob had the opportunity to tour Australia through organisations such as Musica Viva and Arts Queensland.
Bob is a Vincent Bach artist. His quintet (The Bob Schultz Jazz Quintet) has toured Australian and Asian venues, presenting music inspired by artists such as Freddie Hubbard, Till Bronner and infusing modern latin jazz ideas.
Bob's recent recorded work includes featuring on album recordings for 'Expedition' by Chukale, 'Flame Trees' by Louise Denson Group and 'Final Conversation of Kings' by The Butterfly Effect (Village Roadshow Music), as well as work with composer Joff Bush on Australian hit TV Series 'Bluey' (ABC).
